The raindrops pattered softly against the tall windows of their lad house, making for a calming backdrop to the already quiet morning. Tony stretched the rolled over with a sigh of contentment, a smile lighting his face when he saw Pepper still fast asleep next to him with her hair fanning out across her pillow. He reached out to brush back a stray strand behind her ear, his fingers lingering as he took in how peaceful she looked.

This past year of their retirement and married life had made them closer to each other than ever before. With the frantic pace of running Stark Industries behind them, they'd found other things to occupy their time, such as long walks together around the lake. They had movie nights full of laughter and stolen kisses, and mornings like this one where they could sleep in together for as long as they wanted.

Tony looked out of the window, watching the rain trickle down the glass. The day's forecast predicted storms for all day long. For a day like this one, he can picture him and Pepper curled up on the couch later with mugs full of hot chocolate warming their hands, listening to the rain while they read or talked or just enjoyed being together. If he knew Pepper, and he did, he knew she'd want them to cook their meals today, maybe bake a cake together, and maybe if the mood struck, they'd even do a little slow dancing in front of the stove.

Beside him, Pepper began to stir, a soft sigh escaping her lips as her eyes slowly blinked open to meet Tony's. He smiled and leaned in to kiss her forehead tenderly.

"Good morning, Mrs. Stark," Tony whispered.

"Mmmm... good morning. Is it still raining?" Pepper murmured in a sleepy voice.

"Uh huh. So you do know that means it's a stay in bad all day kind of day, right?" Tony proclaimed with a grin.

Pepper gave a contented hum, "Of course, my favorite kind of day."

She scooted closer to him, and laid her head on his chest as they both settled back into bed to continue their slow, peaceful morning. The steady rhythm of the falling rain setting the tone of the day. They would have a day full of quiet intimacy, and the simple joy of just being together.

As the morning stretched on, Tony and Pepper were content to remain tangled in each other's arms, leisurely drifting in and out of sleep as they listened to the rain fall outside. The patter of the rain sometimes was heavy before it would ease back into being a little drizzle, giving them a soothing nature soundtrack to listen to for their lazy morning in bed.

Eventually hunger forced them to leave the warmth of their bed, and together they padded sleepily down to the kitchen clad in their PJs and robes. Tony cut up some fruit for them while Pepper whipped up a batch of pumpkin spice pancakes from scratch. Once the pancakes were done, they tucked into the fluffy stacks with gusto.

Once their hunger for food had been satisfied, they curled up on the plush situated by the living room fireplace as the rain continued to fall down in sheets out of the extra large windows. Pepper gave a sigh of happiness as she snuggled deeper into Tony's embrace while he pulled a throw blanket over them. Pepper had a novel in her hand to read but instead of opening the book, she found herself listening to the fire crackling and the steady rhythm of the rain on the roof.

"I don't think I ever want to leave this house by the lake... or this couch," she murmured.

Tony smiled, and dropped a kiss to her temple. "Then let's don't," he muttered against her, wrapping his arms more tightly around her.

She grinned at him, and intertwined her fingers with his, her gaze turning back to the raindrops as they chased each other down the glass. The storm made everything feel even more cozy than it usually did, as the rain seemed to wash away the rest of the world, and all that remained for them was their haven in the house by the lake.
